Spex – Hawaii Update

Finally, after spending 3 months in Hawaii, the boogers have arrived. As of yet, I have not heard of any altercations between the new-bees and disgruntled locals, which is usually the norm within the first week of the bodyboarding circus arriving. So all in all, it has been a great start to the 2011 bodyboarding season in Hawaii. Plenty good days at Pipe, Sandbars, Keiki and Rockies over the past few days has also kept hungry boogers fulfilled happy. Although it has become much harder to scrap a good wave from the pack, I have had my fill and feel prepared for the contest ahead.

Spex

A very sneaky Cracker.

My bru Cracker arrived from SA last night and shot this of me at OTW this morning. Thanks Crackdog! Its gona be a magic season.

TheSpex Northshore so far….

OK, I’ve been here for a week, shooting, surfing, just pretty much enjoying the island life and the first couple proper swells hitting the North Shore of Oahu for tis winter. I recon this could have been the best I have seen pipe since 2007/08, when i was pumping for 12 days straight. The past 4 days have been really good with every glance at Pipe providing a moment of glory for someone and a feeling of awe for the rest. Its been Epic, even the few days of fun waves just before the ocean came alive.

Ear Op

Last Wednesday at noon, I checked into the hospital, put on that blue back to front cape, that leaves your arse hanging out the back, and was lying in the operating theatre by 2pm. Three and a half hours later, They actually cut my ear off, folded it forward and then drilled into my skull to get rid of the bone that was growing in my ear canal, protecting my ear from the icy water I have been surfing in for the past 15 years. This sounds more like breaking an ear than fixing it, but i’m happy its done. Four more weeks out the water and I’m frothing to get back in. Next Surf = North Shore, Hawaii 10th Nov.

Another day in the Bay :)

After getting schooled in the horrid waves at SA’s, I was happy to get back to CT where even when its flat, the ocean is beautiful. Yesterday I gripped my housing, which was tucked away in my bag for the duration of my stay in Durban, thanks to exceptionally poor quality of waves and conditions, took a stroll down the road and found myself scampering over the rocks never quite quick enough to shoot some glassy cylinder shaped pits unload in the glassy and green Camps Bay.

Back In South Africa

Hey guys.

Hope all is well. Been back home for 3 weeks and pretty much have not had a day without waves. I’ve spent a total of 2 nights in my own bed, travelling up and down the east coast, making the most of our winter. The waves have been amazing, the only problem being I am surfing by myself because there is no one around. I have some frame grabs I will be sending u soonest, just need to get my hands on them.

Currently I am in Plettenberg bay for the Wedge Classic, one of our SABA contests. Frothing to unlesh on the the knee seeing it is a left hand wedge! All in all I am a happy camper and u guys are legends. I’ll keep u guys posted.

Still rockin’ Downunder

I’ve been cruising the East Coast around Sydney with hombres, Wattsy, Dan and Kruger. With a couple successful missions down south with old mate Kane Cox and some of my saffa boys, but for now, here is a little something from around Avalon today. Fun.

Ah nooo, I’m beached is.

New Zealand. What an amazing place. They call their roads highways, but you have to slow down to 25 km/h for the corners and if one of the livestock decide to stick their head over the fence, they might end-up on your dashboard. The people are borderline too friendly and the landscapes look like something out of a fairy tale. It will go from crisp sunshine and pristine waves to victory at sea and torrential downpour within 6 hours. This is truly a land of extremes with a snowcapped volcanic peak towering over black sand beaches, fringed by prehistoric fern forests. Amazing.
